ACTIVITY #LIBRARIANFASHION – HOW TO BREAK STEREOTYPES BRAVE AND STYLISH

Māra Jēkabsone

Inspired from the Librarian Fashion Session, organized by the New Professionals Special Interest Group at the 2018 General Conference of IFLA in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the Library Association of Latvia organized a similar campaign for librarians in Latvia. The campaign “Librarian Fashion” was announced in the end of 2018, and its aim was to show librarians as bright, attractive and modern personalities and to break the stereotypes that still prevail in society about the visual image of our profession. Librarians made not only creative and bold photos, but also a special traveling exhibition, clothing collection, librarians’ fashion calendar and organized meetings with fashion designers and stylists. The campaign closed on April 17, 2019 – Librarian Fashion and Style Day, when presentations dedicated to the theme of librarian fashion and a live Librarian fashion show took place. The latest achievement of the campaign is “Librarian Fashion Bookazine”.
